Melaka is known for its historical prominence and its cultural appeal, in the 16th century, Melaka enjoyed a reputation as the foremost maritime trading centre in the region. So coveted was Melaka by the European powers that it was ruled successively by the Portuguese, Dutch and the British until the Federation of Malaya was formed on 31st August 1957.

The Virtual Museum preserves for posterity Melaka’s historic and cultural heritage on the WWW. Visitors can now ‘tour’ the museums from the comfort of their homes. The Virtual Museum will be of invaluable assistance to historians and students involved in research on Melaka.
A joint overprint stamp and commemorative issue by Pos Malaysia and Pos Indonesia were launched at a ceremony on Saturday, 24th May 2014 at the Sonobudoyo Museum in Jogjakarta to mark the friendship of the two cities of Melaka and Jogjakarta via showcasing their heritage that are available at several museums of both cities.
The overprint stamp measuring 70mm x 25mm will feature the Kampung Hulu Mosque, Melaka and is available in 90 sen denomination. The commemorative cover featuring five museums in Melaka namely TYT Museum, Hang Tuah Centre, Stamp Museum, Stadthuys Building and Samudera Museum and five museums in Jogjakarta namely Bebadan Museum Karaton Yogyakarta, Ullen Sentalu Museum, Sonobudoyo Museum, Benteng Vredeburg and Museum Pendidikan Indonesia is priced at 50 sen each.
