On July 16, 2018, the Sultan of Perak, Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, officially inaugurated the Telegraph Museum in Taiping (state of Perak), the first museum of its kind in Southeast Asia.
Among the interesting objects exhibited in this museum, a 1870s submarine cable which was the first in the world utilising insulation materials from the Gutta Percha tree extract.
Visitors can also view early telegraph transmitters and reception tools, as well as other peripherals related to the telegraph communications system in its infancy, while appreciating the history of the telegraph and the benefits it brought to the nation until the telegram service was terminated in 2012.
