The year of 2012 marked the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Princess Elizabeth ascended the throne in 1952 upon the death of her father, King George VI. Westminster Abbey hosted the official Coronation on 2 June 1953. Queen Elizabeth II is the second longest serving British Monarchy. Only five other kings and queens in British history have reigned for 50 years or more. Her Majesty the Queen is Head of the Commonwealth, with 2012 marking the 60th anniversary of this role. To celebrate the year of the Diamond Jubilee Her Majesty the Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, are marking the occasion with a series of regional visits and engagements throughout the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. In additional, members of the Royal Family are travelling overseas representing The Queen throughout the Diamond Jubilee year.

The Duke of Cambridge is the eldest son of The Prince of Wales. He is second in line to the British Throne. On 29 April 2011, Prince William married Catherine Elizabeth Middleton. The couple are known as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.The official residence of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge is Kensington Palace, but their main home is on Anglesey, where the Duke is a serving Search and Rescue Officer. The visit of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Malaysia in celebration of The Queen’s Jubilee Year (on 13-15 September) is part of the couple’s second overseas tour, following an earlier visit to Canada and Los Angeles.
