Malaysian National Philatelic Exhibition 1997

1997 marks three notable events in the history of Philately in Malaysia. Firstly, it is the 130th Anniversary of the first stamps (1867-1997), then the 50th Anniversary of the Philatelic Society of Malysia (PSM) 1947-1997, the national organisation in Malaysia and finally 50 Years of Organised Philately in the country. To commemorate these events POS Malaysia, the Philatelic Society of Malaysia and the Department of Museums & Antiquity are organising a National Philatelic Exhibition (MALPEX ´97) which is fully sponsored by Pos Malaysia.

As a National Exhibition, it is open only to Malaysian stamp collectors in the Competive Classes. However, the Exhibition will embrace all the FIP classes, viz. Traditional Philately, Postal History, Postal Stationery, Thematics, Aerophilately, Astrophilately, Maximaphily, Revenues, Youth Philately and Modern Philately. An additional Open Class will also be introduced for firsttime collectors to participate. An estimated number of 300 frames of exhibits (16 sheets each) in the competitive classes will be presented. The award will be from Grand Prix National, Large Gold, Gold, Large Vermeil, Vermeil, Large Silver, Silver, Silver Bronze and Bronze Medals. A Court of Honour and Invited Class will also be provided.

MALPEX ´97 is held with the support of the Federation of Inter-Asian Philately (FIAP) will focus attention on the hobby of stamp collecting as a intelligent hobby with great educational value. The theme adopted for MALPEX ´97 will be ´STAMP OUT SOCIAL ILLS THROUGH STAMPS´.
