Alor Setar, capital town of Kedah Darulaman will celebrate 250th anniversary on 2nd June 1990. This grand celebration will highlight the history of Alor Setar. Most of us especially the younger generation may not be aware of the history of Alor Setar which had grown and developed rapidly.
Originally Alor Setar was only a village with several attap houses located at the confluence of two rivers. When the 19th Sultan of Kedah Darulaman, Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Adilin Muadzam Shah – II found this village. His Highness was attracted by the village and transferred the administrative centre from the Istana Bukit Pinang to this village. From that day the village had developed and became the focius of Kedah Darulaman administration.
